ASF appoints COSCO's Wang Cheng as Secretary General

Hong Kong: The Asian Shipowners Forum, a voluntary organization which represents around 50% of the world's cargo carrying fleet, has appointed its first Secretary General by the decision of the Chairmen of the seven member shipowner associations of the ASF.

"We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Wang Cheng as the first Secretary General of the ASF," said Captain Wei Jia-fu, chairman of the 17th ASF and chairman of the meeting. "Mr Wang is presently a vice general manager of the Transportation Division, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, Beijing, and brings great experience and skill to the new position. We are confident that the appointment of Mr Wang represents the dawn of a new era for a collective voice for Asian shipowners".

Wang started working at COSCO in 1988 and rose up the ranks in its various divisions accumulating extensive shipping knowledge and experience. He has particular expertise in commercial and maritime laws. Wang also holds positions of Vice President of Anhui Ocean Shipping Corporation and Director of Chinese-Tanzanian Joint Shipping Corporation. He also participates in meetings and activities organized by BIMCO, ISF, P&I Clubs, etc.

His first responsibility will be to set up the permanent secretariat office in Singapore.  [26/07/07]
