Singapore: The Asian Shipowners Forum has added its voice to the end piracy petition. A large number of shipping industry bodies banded together just over a month ago to launch a global e-petition (www.endpiracypetition.org) today demanding stronger action, renewed focus and new initiatives by governments to tackle the problem of piracy in the international shipping lanes, particularly through the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean. ASF has now added its voice to the coalition of industry groups in their fight against piracy. "The ASF supports this coalition. This is an important step that we, as Asian shipowners, have to take in order to protect our seafarers. We have also informed the organisers of this move to include the ASF in the future in such meaningful campaigns," said Johnson W. Sutjipto, the chairman of the ASF. [23/06/10]
