Bahri's VLCC fleet swells to 38
Saudi Arabian shipowner Bahri’s fleet of VLCCs has increased to 38 with the delivery of its latest newbuilding from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

The 300,000 dwt tanker Maharah was Bahri’s second VLCC newbuild of 2017 and the company has eight more on order. The latest delivery brings Bahri’s VLCC fleet to 38.

“The addition of Maharah further strengthens our position as the world's largest owner and operator of VLCCs and reinforces our leadership position in the global transportation and logistics sector,” said Ahmed Ali Al-Subaey, a board member of Bahri.

Ali Al-Harbi, acting ceo of Bahri added, “The partnership between Bahri and Hyundai Heavy Industries spanning over a decade has been highly successful, with 26 vessels ordered and delivered to date and eight more VLCCs currently on order, among which three will be delivered this year.”

Future VLCC newbuilding orders by Bahri at a new joint venture mega-yard in Saudi to be built operated by a joint venture where Bahri joins Saudi Aramco, HHI and Lamprell. Under the joint venture Bahri will agree to purchase not less than 75% of its vessel requirements over the next 10 years for 52 newbuilds including VLCCs.
