Bangkok: International container lines based in Bangkok city centre continue to operate from satellite offices in Lad Krabang and Laem Chabang as calm returns to the capital. Both NYK and Maersk Line closed their offices on May 17, and yet to restart operations in the Thai capital, which is under curfew, after rioters torched over 30 buildings in the city on Wednesday "The Maersk Line office in Bangkok was closed temporarily from 17 May and plans to re-open on Monday 24 May if the situation has not deteriorated," said Thomas Lindy Sorensen, country manager for Maersk in Thailand. Both of Thailand's main ports have remained operational throughout the crisis. "In the meanwhile, staff have remote access to systems and email from home, and operations continue as normal via phone and other means of communication," Sorensen said. "We have also deployed staff from the head office in Bangkok to other offices in Laem Chabang and Lat Krabang. There has been no significant impact on the business nor disruption to our service to customers." [21/05/10]
