Singapore: The Seatrade Asia Awards last night honoured the best in Asian shipping with Khalid Hashim of Precious Shipping receiving the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award.

A total of 13 companies and three individuals were recognised for their outstanding achievements at glittering awards dinner attended by 700 leading industry executives at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore.

Precious Shipping managing director Khalid Hashim was honoured with one of the evening’s top accolades, the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award recognising his many contributions to Asia’s shipping industry over his 30-year career.

Hashim said: “I’m overwhelmed to have received Seatrade Asia’s Lifetime Achievement Award it is one of the industry’s top honours. I’ve dedicated 30 years to the maritime industry, taking on my first role in the dry cargo trade at only 21 years of age. The industry has undergone huge changes since I first entered it and it’s been a real privilege to have been part of its development.”

Two companies walked away with multiple awards Pacific Basin Shipping for Corporate Social Responsibility and Wet/Dry Bulk Operator and ClassNK for Education and Training and the Classification Society.

The Seatrade Personality of the Year Award, recognising an exceptional individual contribution to the industry in the region over the previous 12 months, went to Kenneth Koo, chairman and ceo of Tai Chong Cheang Steamship Co. Also recognised for outstanding personal achievement over the last 12 months was Lionel Lee, Managing Director Ezra Holdings, named Seatrade Young Person of the Year.

“We had an outstanding caliber of entries this year; the judges really had their work cut out whittling down the entries to these final 13 companies and three individuals.
