BH Global confirms employee died in China tugboat tragedy

Singapore-listed BH Global has confirmed would its employees died onboard the tugboat that capsized during sea trials in China last Thursday.

“The board and management are deeply saddened to report that one employee of our subsidiary, Z-Power Automation, was among the deceased recovered by the Chinese authorities. He was there for the commissioning of the vessel,” BH Global said in a statement.

The employee was a service engineer and an Indian national.

“Management is in touch with his family and will do our utmost to provide support and comfort to them during their grief and bereavement,” the company said.

A total of 22 died when the tugboat undergoing sea trials for SembCorp Marine’s Jurong Marine Services, which was planning to charter the vessel, capsized off Jingjiang, China on Thursday. Only three of the 25 onboard were rescued.
