Tokyo: The Japan Ship Exporters' Association reports that Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (MES) has delivered the Mitsui-MAN B&W 12K98ME engine, the world's biggest electronically controlled marine diesel engine, to Kure Shipyard of IHI Marine United Inc. The engine will be installed on the biggest class container carrier in Japan of 8,000teu for operation by "K" Line. The engine has 12 cylinders with piston diameter of 980mm and total output of 68,640 kW (about 100,000 ps). Fuel injection, adjustment of exhaust gas timing and cylinder oil supply are carried out electronically, increasing manoeuvrability and reducing consumption of fuel and cyliner oil, thereby decreasing emissions of NOx and soot.
