Bimco's general meeting underway in Hong Kong

Bimco's general meeting underway in Hong Kong

Hong Kong: Many of shipping's great and good have descended to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region this week for the biannual Bimco general meeting, which this year forms part of the shipowner body's Asia focus for 2007.

People from more than 50 nations will be attending.

To set the scene for the full day conference on "Future Scenarios", Bimco has invited Shell to present their "Global Scenarios". "Global Scenarios to 2025" provides a tool to explore the many complex business environments in which companies work. Building on the 30-year track record of their scenario teams, they open a path to deeper understanding of the trends, forces and trade-offs that drive change and development.

The Spouse Programme initiative of the last Centenary Meeting will continue in 2007. Focussing on "Shipping and the Environment", it will examine how ships interact with the environment from the cradle to the grave.

The General Meeting also includes a BIMCO 39 Day Programme, as well as shorter BIMCO seminars on current and topical issues of interest to BIMCO members.

Last, but not least, there will be pleasant and memorable events planned. There is a social programme taking delegates to places and venues normally not seen, such as the Shaw Film Studios in Hong Kong for "An Evening of Asian Entertainment", or the top floor of the Central Plaza Building for a spectacular view of Hong Kong during the Welcome Reception. Furthermore, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, a trip to Happy Valley racecourse will be organized for the inaugural Shipowners Cup.  [04/06/07]
