Bintulu Port to spend RM200m on expansion

Kuala Lumpur: Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd, the owner and operator of Bintulu Port in Sarawak, will invest RM200 million to double its container-handling capacity from 327,000 teu currently to 650,000 teu by 2011.
Part of the funds will also be used to expand its container yard and buy new equipment.
"We will soon call for tenders," its chief executive officer Mior Ahmad Baiti Mior Lub Ahmad said after the group's annual general meeting in Kuching last week.
He said both the container stacking yard at the Bintulu International Container Terminal and the Container Freight Station (CFS) facility will be expanded and upgraded.
The multi-purpose terminal is expected to be completed by 2010 and the container yard in 2011.
Container throughput saw a 26.1 per cent increase from 199,704 teu in 2006 to 251,800 teu last year. [28/04/08]
