Brightoil tanker and fishing boat collide, 12 missing
A Brightoil aframax oil tanker collided with a Chinese fishing boat on Thursday off the west of Japan, leaving 12 crew members of the fishing boat missing, reports said.

The 115,460-dwt tanker Brightoil Lucky, carrying 21 crew members, collided with the fishing boat identified as Lurong Yuanyu 378, which was carrying 16 people.

The incident happened some 400 km north of the Oki Islands in the Sea of Japan.

Japanese coastguards have mounted a search and rescue operation with three patrol boats in an attempt to recover the 12 missing people.

Coastguard officials said the crew members of the oil tanker were safe.
