Busan port, Korea’s main seaport, is the port of call for some 30 global shipping companies, according to BPA.
However, foreign shipping companies that did not have branch offices in Korea use local agencies when calling at Busan port. These agencies had to translate the port facility charge bills into English for foreign clients.
To this end, BPA decided to issue Korean-English port charge bills from September, after a one-month test period. The port authority believes that this new service has enabled the agencies to enhance their work efficiency by reducing previous work procedures.
Kim Chan-gyu, customer service center chief at BPA, said: “We are planning to introduce various measures to minimise inconveniences for customers and to improve service at Busan port.”
