Busan targets 17.5m throughput this year
Busan: The South Korean port of Busan is targeting to handle 17.5m teu of container throughput this year, pointing to a 8.2% growth year-on-year.

The target follows a record high monthly container throughput in May of 1.55m teu, an increase of 9.7% compared to the same period of last year, according to figures from Busan Port Authority (BPA).

“I am pleased to see fruitful results after our active promotion of transhipment cargo. If we continue with our current growth, we will be able to achieve 17.5m teu this year,” said Roh Gi-tae, president of BPA.

Busan port handled 16.18m teu of containers last year.

Last month, transhipment cargoes posted a 20% increase to 772,000 teu, which accounted for almost half of the increase, much higher than the import and export cargo volumes of 770,000 teu.
