Manila: The Oriental Port and Allied Services Corp. (OPASCOR), the exclusive cargo handler at the Cebu International Port (CIP), will acquire a US$3 million modern bulk handling facility next year.
The modern bulk handling facility is intended to handle the bigger volume of cargoes at the CIP like grains, soya, corn, wheat, flour and fertilizers.
Lawyer Tomas Riveral, Opascor president and general manager, said last week that they had to acquire the necessary modern equipment from either China or Singapore to assert Opascors dominance in the bulk cargo handling service in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The program includes the acquisition of a new P127 million gantry crane, two pay loaders worth P2 million, four prime movers worth P6 million and six trailers at P1.5 million each.
Opascor was granted a 10-year contract by the Cebu port Authority (CPA) to provide exclusive cargo handling service at the CIP. The contract will expire in 2013. [31/07/07]
