Tianjin: China's ports are forecast to handle container throughput of 100m teu by the end of the year, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Communications vice-minister Weng Mengyong was quoted as saying that over the first nine months of 2007, China's ports handled 82.11m teu of container traffic, up 22.7 pct year-on-year, and a total of 3.9 bn tons of cargo, up 15.5 pct. For full-year 2006, the ports handled a total of 5.6 bn tons of cargo and 93m teu throughput, Weng said. [05/11/07]
