Shanghai: An 8530 TEU super-large container ship successfully sailed out of the pier of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd on May 28.

This means that China has become the fourth country in the world capable of designing and building super-large container ships on its own.

The ship is the first of the five such ships Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd will build for China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd.

It is 334 metres long, 42.8 metres wide and 24.8 metres deep, with a deadweight capacity of 101,000 tons. The ship has a speed of 27 knots.

Hudong-Zhonghua has orders for nine 8530 teu  super-large container ships.  [30/05/07]
