Chindia service for Maersk

Chindia service for Maersk

Shanghai: Maersk Line has announced the launch of its Far East-Chennai weekly service from next month.
The service, Chennai Express (CHX), begins from September 14. Four vessels of around 2,900 teu capacities each will be deployed on the route beginning Shanghai, a company release said here.
"Given the strong growth in the auto and electronics sector, we would like to target the Far East to South-East India route (Chennai/Kolkata) through this direct Far East to East India service," Maersk Line (India & Sri Lanka) Managing Director Rizwan Soomar said.
The service, connecting two of the fastest growing regions (India and China), underlines Maersk's commitment to south and east India, covering East China, South China and South-East Asia. Besides, it will connect North China, Korea and Japan at Tanjung Pelepas, the release said.
"There has been a space constraint on this trade. The new service will ease capacity to a large extent. This is another key addition to our robust portfolio of products for Maersk Line India," Soomer said.
The transit time of CHX service will be 13 days. The first port call will be from Shanghai on September 14 and is scheduled to call Chennai on September 27, the release said. [18/08/10]
