Chinese firms look to increase capacity in Italy

Hong Kong: COSCO and China Shipping have proposed increases to their terminal capacity in the Italian ports of Naples (pictured) and Genoa. According to local news reports, both companies would also look to build docks at other smaller ports in the region.

COSCO is believed to be in negotiations to set up a dock for smelted metal products in the port of Ravenna as well as for an additional 350,000teu container dock at Naples in conjunction with Fratelli Cosulich. CSOCO, which currently operates from the Conatec dock at Naples, has also invested $313m in the Levante Dock project with Mediterranean Shipping Company.

Upon completion of the Levante dock, China Shipping will take over use of the Conatec dock.  [18/04/07]
