Dhaka: The indefinite suspension of all activity at Chittagong Port has led cargo carriers to add a surcharge of $50 per teu for all cargo bound for the Bangladeshi port. The county's largest trade gateway has been shut for three days due to a clash between local political parties, leaving more than 30 ships stranded - some of which have been forced to sail without unloading their cargo. Members of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) have approached the interim government with a plea to reopen the port. [14/11/06]
