Chittagong Port to implement 'green channel'

Dhaka: Chittagong Customs Authority has announced plans to introduce a 'green channel' in an effort to reduce container congestion as well as the turnover time of vessels. The new channel will allow customers to divert their containers directly to private inland container depots as they are offloaded from the vessels without the time consuming customs procedures currently in place. The new channel will only be accessible to 45 garment importers who have been chosen by the port authorities on the basis of past interactions. If successful, the channel will be made available to more importers.  [02/03/07]
