ClassNK boosts Africa and Middle East presence

ClassNK boosts Africa and Middle East presence

Tokyo: Japanese ship classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai is to launch two offices in Africa and the Middle East this month.  The first is a new office in Accra, Ghana, which will officially open on 25 December 2009, while the other is in Tehran, Iran, which will open on 31 December.
ClassNK chairman and president Noboru Ueda noted that "the establishment of the new office in Accra will make it possible to provide more timely and effective service to the Gold Coast region of Western Africa.  Currently, it takes at least seven hours for surveyors from our Durban Office just to arrive on site before they can conduct surveys and audits in the region.  The establishment of a base in Accra will enable ClassNK to much more easily and meet the growing needs of our clients in the region."

He went on to say that the new office in Tehran "will not only serve to facilitate ClassNK's ability to accommodate requests for surveys and other services in Iran and neighboring areas but will also be an important base for providing technical services and support shipping companies in the country and beyond."

Establishment of both these offices reinforces ClassNK's service network by becoming, respectively, the 108th and 109th offices of the NK global network.  They also supplement the 11 other ClassNK offices already present in Africa and the Middle East. The new offices are expected to further enhance the Society's ability to better meet the needs its clients in the region and around the world.  [21/12/09]
