Tokyo: The world's largest ship classification society, Class NK of Japan, has set a new record. Earlier this week it revealed it had passed the 150m grt mark. The Tokyo-headquartered firm can now boast 6,729 ships totally 150.05m grt under its belt. It now classes more than one in five classed ships worldwide.
"This is not just an accomplishment for ClassNK but is a milestone for ship classification as well, for it is also the first time that any ship classification society has attained this mark," the society said.
Around 10m gt of newbuilding tonnage have already been added to the ClassNK register since the start of the year.
