ClassNK chairman becomes head of ACS

ClassNK has announced that its chairman and president, Noboru Ueda, has become chairman of the Association of Asian Classification Societies (ACS).

ACS, the co-operation between six Asian classification societies for the sharing of technical knowledge, includes Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI), China Classification Society (CCS), Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), Korean Register of Shipping (KR), Vietnam Register (VR) and ClassNK.

Speaking on 1 January, Ueda announced he was “deeply honoured to serve as the Chairman of Asia’s leading maritime technical organizations.

“As Chair Society, ClassNK will strive to further strengthen cooperation and communication between ACS members in order to better contribute to the enhancement of maritime safety and environmental protection.” Ueda added that ACS would become a more active contributor to the development of balanced regulations at the IMO, under his chairmanship.
