ClassNK holds technical seminar in India

Mumbai: Japanese classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) held its second India Technical Seminar at Mumbai's Taj Mahal Hotel on 4 December 2007. In addition to reviewing the various activities being undertaken by the society, the seminar covered a range of subjects of particular importance to enhancing ship quality and safety.  These included the maintenance of bulk carriers, recent developments at the IMO and IACS, as well as recent amendments to the technical rules of the society.

Other topics discussed included ClassNK's approach to ballast water management systems and an analysis of various non-conformities related to the ISM Code.  Additionally, an overview was presented of the work being done by the society to establish suitable methods for assessing the performance of automated systems and various energy conservation support systems used in next-generation coastal ships (Super Eco-Ship) and the development of corresponding classification rules for such assessments. The seminar also provided a platform for key industry players to exchange views on various technical and other issues of mutual interest.  [06/12/07]
