ClassNK says MOL Comfort "fully compliant" at end May
An investigation into the cause of the MOL Comfort accident by the vessel's classification body ClassNK has found the vessel’s design complied fully with both its own rules and IACS regulations.

Both “exhaustive” examination of the vessel’s design and plan approval process and of the vessel’s survey records has taken place, headed by ClassNK executive vp Toshitomo Matsui, but the cause of the casualty is still unknown, with no abnormalities observed during Comfort’s Special Survey on May 29, 2013.

"The review alsoverified that no abnormalities were observed during the special survey and that the vessel was in full compliance with all requirements of the ClassNK Rules and IACS regulations at the time of survey completion," ClassNK said.

MOL yesterday announced the appointment of Lloyd’s Register as technical consultant to assist the investigation and determine the cause of the structural failure, as well as to “reinforce the safety of sister vessels.”
