Clubbed by shippers, OOCL pushes ahead with controversial box seal fee this week

Hong Kong: Wednesday sees the launch of a controversial container seal fee by Hong Kong liner OOCL, a move that has caught the ire of the local shipper community.  The fee is being raised on south China cargoes.
The per-seal fee is HK$25 for containers from Hong Kong and Macau, and 25 yuan from Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan and Yunnan.
Local shippers councils have said the move is unfair, targeting just one region rather than being implanted globally. [11/05/09]
