CMA CGM adds Asia-Africa service

CMA CGM adds Asia-Africa service

Marseilles: CMA CGM, together with its subsidiary Delmas, is adding a third Asia-Africa route with the launch of Africa Express (AFEX) dedicated to north Asian markets. At the same time, its WAX (West Africa Express) and ASAF (Asia Africa) services are to undergo a reorganisation, which will involve reallocating some vessels and calls between the three loops as well as commissioning a ninth ship on the WAX line.

The new AFEX service will deploy initially eight 1,700-2,000teu ships and will link Northern Asia (Northern China, South Korea) to the centre and north of West Africa with calls in Port Louis/ Mauritius and Durban/South Africa en route. The WAX service will deploy 10 1,700-2,000teu ships directly serving the major ports in the centre and north of West Africa: Ghana, Benin, Togo and Côte d'Ivoire. The ASAF service will connect the south and centre of West Africa (Angola, Congo, Brazzaville, Gabon, Cameroon) with nine 1,700teu ships.

The changes will come into effect in early January 2007 and will serve both to speed up transit times through direct services and to increase frequency. Eventually three weekly services are planned.  [19/12/06]
