Coast Guard vessels head toward blazing Hansa Brandenburg
Mauritian Coast Guard vessels have been dispatched to the scene of the Leonhardt & Blumberg-owned, Liberian-flagged, 1,740 teu container vessel Hansa Brandenburg, adrift 200 nm Northeast of the islands.

The vessel suffered a serious fire enroute from Singapore to Durban. All 17 crew members are reported safe, having been picked up by Hermann Buss-owned containership Donau Trader.

The vessel was last reported 200 miles Northeast of Mauritius. While the cause of the incident has yet to be ascertained, Leonhardt & Blumberg has pledged that an investigation will be conducted.

A Leonhardt & Blumberg superintendent is reportedly en route to Mauritius.

It is the second major fire on a container vessel this month after the fore section of the stricken boxship MOL Comfort caught fire and later sank while being towed to Oman.
