Mumbai: The Container Corporation of India (Concor), the state owned rail and logistics company, is reported to be evaluating an expansion into the shipping market. The company is believed to be in negotiations with shipping lines to arrange for the transport of containers to neighbouring South Asian countries by sea. Concor has already forayed into the shipping market on an experimental basis, having shipped two batches of teu containers to Bangladesh last year.
"Due to the rising demand in container transportation sector, Concor is weighing options to spread its network beyond the country. As part of it, we had started service to Bangladesh. Soon we will the consignments to other neighbouring countries also," Concor director Anil Gupta told the Economic Times. [12/01/07]
