CSAV Norasia chairman Ricardo Claro dies

CSAV Norasia chairman Ricardo Claro dies

Santiago: Ricardo Claro Valdés was found dead yesterday in his home located in the municipality of Las Condes as the result of a heart attack. The chairman and principal shareholder in Chilean shipping comapny CSAV and Hong Kong based subsidiary CSAV Norasia, was 74 years old at the time of his death.

The Vice-president of the Chilean Republic, Edmundo Pérez Yoma, expressed his "deepest condolences" to the family of deceased business tycoon, particularly to his widow María Luisa Vial.

Claro had a big impact on the shipping world, particularly as the result of CSAV's aquisition of Norasia in June 2000. The move expanded Norasia's focus from the Asia to Europe route and allowed it to become a key player in the East-West trades.  [28/10/08]
