CSCL launches Far East to Mediterranean service

Shanghai: China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) has announced that it is to launch a new service from the Far East to Mediterranean ports - the AMX1. The service offers customers an alternative to CSCL's recently ended weekly round the world AMAX service, which connected Far Eastern port via Haifa to Terranian Sea ports and North American ports.

The AMX1 service, which will deploy seven containerships of an average 4000teu capacity, will also cater to Israeli cargo using two dedicated feeder ships - Xiang Qian and Xiang Kun, to transport cargo to the Egyptian port of Damietta. In a press release CSCL stated that it views Israel as its second most important market in the Mediterranean.

CSCL is currently the sixth largest container shipping company in the world and operates a fleet of 134 vessels with a total operating capacity of 400,000teu. [11/07/07]
