d’Amico signs $73.2m contract for product tanker duo
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has won a contract from Italy's d’Amico International Shipping (DIS) subsidiary d’Amico Tankers, for two new 50,000 dwt eco-type product tankers at $36.6m each.

The tankers, to be delivered by the end of 2016, are expected to save between six to seven tonnes of fuel per day compared to older designs, as well as offering greater flexibility in the types of products transported, with capability for nine different cargoes.

"DIS’ newbuilding strategy is going to be a key point in 2014,” commented DIS ceo Marco Fiori. “By adding new vessels able to carry different products simultaneously and safely, and by holding the costs down and ensuring a reduced environmental impact, DIS is constantly showing its strong ability to be not only more competitive at an international level, but also to perfectly understand the needs of a changing market”.

d’Amico Tankers currently has a total of five MR and four handysize eco-type product tankers on order with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, while DIS has one vessel on order as part of a joint venture with Venice and Shipping Logistics.
