Dalian Port to build Changchun inland port

Dalian Port to build Changchun inland port

Shanghai: The Dalian Port Corporation will build an inland port in the city of Changchun in Jilin province to improve its multi-modal transportation network in northeastern China. The planned inland port will have an area of 190,000 square metres. There will be an area for loading and unloading, a storage zone and a logistics zone. The inland port will handle up to 200,000 teu yearly. Container rail lines will connect the inland port to the northeastern region when the phase one operates in August. Phase two will have a multi-functional customs facility and is scheduled to complete by June 2009. The inland port will engage in container shipping, storage and inspection as well as highway shipping transfers, logistics and distribution. Dalian's move comes in response to rival Busan's decision to invest in an inland nearby part of northeast China to lure cargoes away Dalian. [22/5/08]
