Dalian: North China port operator, Dalian Port Company has announced that it intends to scrap plans to buy two 3000teu container ships and will use the allocated money towards investment in the third phase of the Dayaowan terminal project. The vessels would have been used for domestic container transportation services between Dalian port (pictured) and ports in South China
The company has attributed its decision to divert the funds to the volatility of the container shipping market, increasing ship price and lastly to the fact that trade between Dalian and South Chinese ports is slower than expected. The third phase at Dayaowan is expected to expand the port's container handling abilities and contribute towards the port's long term container plans. [31/12/10]
