Damen opens new yard in Vietnam

Damen opens new yard in Vietnam
Damen has opened a brand new shipyard in Vietnam, its first joint venture yard in the country and one of the largest in the Damen group.

A joint venture with Song Cam, the yard where Damen first built vessels in Vietnam over a decade ago, the new Damen Song Cam will initially produce around 40 vessels a year. In the yard's second phase capacity will be raised to 80 vessels a year, with employment for up to 800 workers. Currently Damen Song Cam employs a workforce of 300.

Damen has been present in Vietnam for more than 12 years, working with five shipyards. "We have successfully built 226 vessels in Vietnam with our partner yards." commented Pim Schuurman, md of Damen Holding Vietnam.

"Vietnam has a lot of shipbuilding knowledge, the people are very hard working and in the next stage of Damen's Vietnam journey we are looking forward to having our own Joint Venture shipyard, which has been designed to maximise efficiency."

The 43-hectare site has 500m directly alongside the River Cam with direct access to open sea. The yard's outfitting hall is 120 m long by 85 m wide and is flanked by paint and carpentry workshops.
