Damen wins heavy-lift upgrade contract from Technip
Damen Shiprepair has won a contract for dry-docking and upgrade work on Technip heavy lift and rigid pipelay vessel Global 1200.

Designed by Ulstein Sea of Solutions (SoS) of the Netherlands and built by Singapore-based Keppel Singmarine, the vessel will be upgraded from its current DP2 capability to DP3, with various other work also carried out.

“The major upgrade works are divided into 3 packages; dry-docking for Special Periodical Survey and various maintenance repair works, modifications to upgrade the vessel’s DP capability, and various pipelay equipment upgrades for future projects,” explained Ruud Haneveer, commercial manager Offshore & Conversion.

The vessel arrived at the yard in January, after Damen completed life-time extension work on Seaway Heavy Lifting's Stanislav Yudin, which ended in 2014.

“The successful completion of the Stanislav Yudin upgrade earlier this year gave a significant step upwards in DSR’s project management and QHES organisation and this will contribute to the successful completion of the Global 1200 upgrade and modifications works,” said Mark Witjens, md of Damen Shiprepair.
