In its weekly report Banchero Costa said that at the beginning of 2015 its records showed that 976 dry bulk newbuildings were scheduled for delivery across the year.
In what was to be one of worst years ever recorded for dry shipping less than two-thirds of the newbuildings were actually delivered in 2015 with actual deliveries just 612 or 63% of the total. Of the 37% of the dry bulk orderbook that was not delivered in 2015 as scheduled 32% of the newbuildings were delayed to future years while 5% of the orderbook was cancelled.
The highest level of delays was in the panamax sector where just 59% of the expected orderbook was delivered.
In the crude tanker sector of the 84 units expected to be delivered in 2015 just 57 newbuildings left shipyards, 68% of the total. Some 30% of the orders slipped to future years while two vessels on the orderbook were cancelled.
