Dubai: Risk management specialist DNV has brought its business units under one roof in Abu Dhabi with a newly opened office in the Al Mushrif area. On the maritime front Liam Campbell is appointed station manager for the new office employs over 40 staff who deliver specialised risk management services for over 50 customers, primarily in the energy and maritime industries in the Middle East.
Peter Hamer, Area Chair and head of DNV Maritime's operations in the Middle East said the DNV group, with 2008 worldwide revenues totalling US$ 1.367 million, is offering advanced cross-disciplinary services in response to growing customer needs worldwide.
"The need to manage technical, societal and business risks is more urgent than ever, also here in the Middle East. Indeed, there is huge potential for business here, most notably in the maritime and energy industries," said Mr Hamer who sits in DNV's regional headquarters in Dubai. Divsional revenues grew 30% to DM110m in 2008 and despite the downturn, DNV is budgeting for an increase this year.
"We are confident that we have the necessary manpower and expertise available to serve the maritime industry, especially when it comes to class, advisory, plan approval, and ships in operation services," said Campbell who also highlighted DNV's strong focus on competence development to help support its clients through the period of readjustment.
The emergence of strong and diversified maritime companies and operations is making the Middle East one of DNV's key growth areas. The classification society currently has 232 employees in the region, spread over a network of 11 offices in eight countries, and supplies a full range of technical and consultancy-related services in multiple fields. It set up its first office in the United Arab Emirates 32 years ago. [08/10/09]
