Seoul: South Korea- based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has revealed that it has won a $2.1bn order to build 10 vessels for a European shipping company. The vessels, of which nine will be container ships and one will be drill ship, are due for delivery by December 2011. The new order pushes up the yard's order book to 108 vessels, worth an estimated $15.1bn- just 10% below its target for the year of $17bn.
The yard has also recently completed construction of the 3,752teu "Bahia Negra" for Hamburg Süd. The vessel is the last in a series of six identical container ships for the German liner company.The vessel will be delivered on August 23, and will be phased into Hamburg Süd's liner service between
Asia/South Africa and South America East Coast.
Hamburg Süd has a further 16 container ships of 5,500-6,300teu size on order at DSME and at its sister yard in Romania - Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI) for delivery by 2010. [17/08/07]
