Seoul: Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co will invest about KRW150 billion ($160 million) to build a floating dock in South Korea due to start operations by June 2009.
"We have decided to build our fourth floating dock in Geojedo, South Gyeongsang province, to meet soaring demand for container ships and crude oil tankers, mainly from Europe," said a company spokesman.
The new floating dock will have an annual build capacity of six to seven 12,600 TEU container ships, or the same number of 12,600 TEU very large crude oil carriers, he added.
As of Aug. 16, Daewoo Shipbuilding had received orders for 108 vessels valued at $15.1 billion, amounting to 89% of this year's order target of $17 billion, said the spokesman.
Daewoo Shipbuilding, the world's third-largest shipbuilder by order backlog, currently has two dry docks and three floating docks in Geojedo. [28/08/07]
