DSME contracts Wärtsilä to equip 17 LNG carrier newbuilds
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has contracted Wärtsilä to supply combined inert gas generators and gas combustion units for 17 LNG Carrier newbuilds, under construction for owners in Singapore, Greece, South Korea, Cyprus and Canada.

The units are Wärtsilä’s first ever to combine inert gas generators (IGG) and gas combustion units (GCU) with a high throughput capacity of 3,800 kg/h. The system uses boil-off gas as fuel for creating inert gas, minimising use of MGO and cutting operating costs.

The IGG-GCU units are scheduled to be delivered to the DSME from the third quarter of 2016.

"We are pleased to be working on this project with Wärtsilä, a company that we know well and respect,” said NS Kim, junior director at DSME. “We have every confidence in their ability to provide an efficient, reliable, and safe solution for these vessels.”
