Evergreen extends terminal lease at Kaohsiung

Taipei: Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) has extended its lease on the newer facility at Container Terminal number five at the Port of Kaohsiung for a period of 11 years and one month. The Taiwanese liner company, which currently operates two container terminals at Kaohsiung, is now contracted to operate the 400,000sq mtr terminal till December 31, 2018. Terminal five features three berths (Piers 79, 80 and 81), which are served by nine post-Panamax gantry cranes, 30 rail mounted gantry cranes and six empty container stackers. It boasts a capacity of up to 25,000teu of loaded containers and 3,700teu of empty containers.

"Our berths at this terminal are the best equipped and most advanced in the port," said Yen. "Not only are they fully computerised for maximum efficiency in cargo handling operations but the terminal is also authorised for customs clearance self-management operation." EMC also operates three berths (piers 115, 116 and 117) at terminal number four at the port.

"It has been Evergreen's operational strategy and goal to offer one-stop transport services to its clients through investment in upstream and downstream businesses to cut operational costs and raise efficiency," Yen added.  [10/09/07]
