Taipei: Despite their chairman's avowed dislike of large tonnage, Taiwan's Evergreen Line are in the market to charter in some very large, 13,000 teu boxships. A contract with a European owner is likely to be concluded in the first quarter. The news comes despite chairman Chang Yung-fa's high profile comments condemning super post panamax containerships as too many.
"When the lull comes, the huge ships will suffer instability," he predicted last year. Evergreen is the last box major to embrace the supersize containership. [02/01/08]
