Shanghai: China's biggest steel producer, Baosteel, is expected to announce that exports for 2010 exceeded 1.4m tons - with ship plate accounting for almost 60% of the total volume. The producer had exported 1.357m tonnes of ship plate in 2009 which it stated accounted for 7.8% of the domestic market.
Baosteel ramped up steel plate production by 10%, with an output of 11,000 tons this year in response to growing demand. The company has stated that intends to maintain this expansion rate in order to cater to new vessel types. [22/12/10]
