Vladivostok: The Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) has announced the departure of its vessel, FESCO VITIM, on its maiden voyage to Hamburg, Germany to be loaded with cargo bound for St.-Petersburg, Russia. The 1730teu boxship will be deployed on the North Europe ?" St.-Petersburg line, strengthening FESCO's presence in the Baltic region. The FESCO VITIM is the latest in the company's B170-V/1 series, being built at Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa shipyard.
The Polish yard is contracted to build seven boxships for FESCO by 2010, including six container-carriers of which two would have the same dimensions as the ice class ?3 FESCO VITIM, with the remaining vessels being built to specifications of the B-178 series.
Vladimir Korchanov, FESCO md, said "On behalf of FESCO Transportation Group, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners and friends in Poland for their long-term and fruitful cooperation. We believe our business relations will continue for our mutual benefits and will result in the new modern and high-speed vessels set to be launched over the next year."
FESCO, which operates a fleet of 72 vessels, is Russia's largest container operator and manages a network of owned agency offices in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan and in all of Russia's far eastern coastal ports ranging from southern to arctic points. [01/09/08]
