Karachi: An intense fire broke out at the head offices of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (pictured) in Karachi on Sunday morning. Although there were no casualties, two people out of the six rescued by a navy helicopter have been admitted to hospital with smoke related injuries.
The fire, extinguished by that evening, completely destroyed the top three floors of the building that housed the offices of many senior PNSC officials as well as a number of records stored on the premises. Company staff have been temporarily moved to the offices of the director-general for ports and shipping and are expected to remain there pending the results of an investigation into the cause of the fire.
PNSC currently manages a fleet of 15 ships comprising Aframax Tankers, Bulk Carriers and Multi Purpose Combination ships. [19/02/07]
