Busan: June Suk Choo completed his three-year tenure as the president of Busan Port Authority(BPA) today with more than 100 people including management and staff from BPA listening to his farewell statement. He was the first president of the newly formed body and has presided over a momentous period as the new port to the west was inaugurated last year, a new cruise terminal came onstream, much of the city centre terminals were earmarked for residential development and the authority embarked on its first overseas acquisition; in Vietnam. That said, during his three year tenure it became increasingly apparent that Busan, and Korea as a whole, was unlikely to achieve the stated goal of becoming the logistics hub for northeast Asia. Lee Gap Sook, the former president of classification society Korean Register will take up the post of running the nation's leading port from tomorrow. [22/01/07]
