First ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation in Zeebrugge port

First ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation in Zeebrugge port
The first ship-to-ship bunkering operations have taken place at the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium.

The LNG bunkering vessel ENGIE Zeebrugge, owned by ENGIE, Mitsubishi Corporation, NYK, and Fluxys, delivered LNG to the dual-fuel car carriers Auto Eco and Auto Energy, operated by United European Car Carriers (UECC).

A joint statement said the LNG bunkering operations were carried out in tandem with cargo operations on the vessels.

The ENGIE Zeebrugge will now be carrying out weekly LNG bunkering operations for UECC car carriers in Zeebrugge.

“The first ship-to-ship bunkering operations are a key milestone in the development of the nascent LNG bunkering market, which needs the collaboration of many stakeholders to gain a foothold: industrial companies, manufacturers, regulatory bodies, port authorities, and shipping companies,” the companies said.
