Four of them, MMC Engineering Bhd, TRC Sdn Bhd, Inai Kiara Sdn Bhd and See Yong & Sons Sdn Bhd are from peninsula Malaysia while Piasau Concrete Sdn Bhd, which is linked to Miri-based diversified Shin Yang group, is the only Sarawak-based firm bidding for the job, according to local media reports.
The tenders are currently being evaluated and the contract is expected to be awarded next month. Construction is expected to start in August and will take 26 months. A budget of MYR460m has been allocated for the breakwater package.
A tender for the the port's next package for the construction of four wharves of 250m each, is expected to be out next month. The four wharves are of 250m in length each.
