Foundation stone laid at Ennore box terminal

Chennai: The government is determined to develop the Ennore Port as a mega port with world class facilities to become the 'Eastern Gateway Port of India' in the future, Union Minister for shipping, road transport and highways, T T Baalu said on the weekend.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Rs 1407 crore container terminal on Saturday, he said it will be built with world class features with a continuous quay length of 1,000 meters and longside depth of 16 meters with a capacity to handle 1.5 million TEUs.
Meanwhile, the Minister also laid the foundation on Sunday at Tuticorin for the Rs 312 crore second container terminal of Tuticorin port. [02/03/09]
