Sydney: The Australian port of Fremantle may be subjected to a seven-day strike shutting down activities at the port if negotiations break down between workers and the management, writes ABC. The Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) has IRC has approved a range of actions by port workers including the permission to strike if their wage claims are not addressed.
27 key operational staff that ferry ship pilots to and from shore are negotiating a new three year deal with port management and claim that they are paid less than their counterparts at other ports.
Chris Leatt-Hayter, Fremantle Ports acting ceo said, "These people are involved in bring the ships in so they are an integral part of port operations and we would be really, really hopeful that we can come into agreement before any action is taken." [16/04/08]
